Read MoreOhio Farm Bureau is offering 25 free well water testing kits to each county Farm Bureau.
It is recommended that wells be tested if they are more than 20 years old, were dug rather than drilled, are shallow, soil is sandy, a chemical spill happened nearby or are near cropland, feedlots, landfills or industrial sites.
The testing kits will be sent to Heidelberg University’s National Center for Water Quality Research for nitrate analysis. Ohio Farm Bureau is paying the cost of the nitrate analysis, which is $25 per sample. Testing for pesticides and metals is available at an additional cost.
Free well water testing kits will be available for pickup April 16, 2018 at the Ottawa County Soil and Water Department, 240 W Lake Street, Oak Harbor, OH. Samples will need to be returned to the same location on or before April 30, 2018. Lab results typically take two to three weeks and will be mailed to the homeowners.
Clean water is one of Farm Bureau’s top priorities. Take advantage of this free kit and secure your free well water testing kit by contacting the Farm Bureau office at 419-849-2128.
