The Richland County Farm Bureau and the Hazelbrush Farm Bureau Community Council will be hosting Farm to Plate demonstrations at the Shelby Farmers Market throughout the summer. The Shelby Farmers Market is located at the Black Fork Commons, at 12 W. Main St., Shelby. Farm to Plate kicks off June 15, at 10 a.m. with Chef Amy Smith, a dietitian at OhioHealth.

The Farm to Plate demonstrations promote consumers purchasing locally sourced produce. Local chefs prepare a variety of meals, share cooking tips, and menu ideas to maximize the use of seasonal, local ingredients. The program is free and open to the public. All demonstrations begin at 10 a.m. The dates and chefs for Farm to Plate are as follows:

June 15: Amy Smith, OhioHealth dietitian

July 20: Ben Lash, The Vault

July 27: Theresa Bowerstock, Baked to a T

August 17: Rasul Welsh

August 24: Michael Morton, Ontario Event Center

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
