2023 Benefit in the Barn

2023 Benefit in the BarnBenefit in the Barn returned for its 9th year on Aug. 19 at Lee Farms in Union County. The Lee Family opened their farm to what has become a signature late-summer occasion bringing consumers and farmers together for food, entertainment, fun and a purpose.

The main objectives of the Benefit in the Barn are to spotlight the hunger issues in our community, raise funding to help address the issue while also providing opportunities for dialogue between consumers and farmers.

2023 Benefit in the BarnWe’re proud to announce this year’s Benefit in the Barn raised $83,436.04 for our local hunger relief agencies! $49,319.02 will be donated to the Delaware County Hunger Alliance, and The Hope Center – Marysville, Ohio will receive $34,144.02.

Organization Director Melinda Lee said, “It is an honor and privilege to work with such a dedicated group of people to work towards the goal of ending hunger in our communities. Having Delaware & Union County Farm Bureaus collaborate on this mission is wonderful. We could not do it without the support of all of our event sponsors, so thank you for your partnership & for making 2023 a record breaking year.”

The mission of the Ohio Farm Bureau is working together for Ohio farmers to advance agriculture and strengthen our communities.

The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
The plan we are on is great. It’s comparable to my previous job's plan, and we are a sole proprietor.

Finding farm labor
I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
We work terrifically with the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau, hosting at least one to two outreach town hall events every year to educate new farmers and existing farmers on traditional CAUV and woodlands.

CAUV: Past, present and future
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
