She is a partner at Gar-Mar Farms, founded Fresh 4 You Farm Market in 2020, and has been the Concord Township fiscal officer since 2006. Jill’s favorite part of being on the board is promoting agriculture in our local community. She has ridden, shown, and/or raised horses since age 6, and was a 4-H advisor for 25+ years.

Kate Hornyak is Delaware County OSU Extension program coordinator. Throughout her time in Delaware, she is pursuing her master’s degree in agricultural and Extension Education. This will allow her to focus on her personal development toward her future goals of becoming a better communicator, and leader for the Delaware County Extension office. She currently lives away from her family farm in Geauga County, but spends a lot of time traveling to Chardon and running the farm alongside her brother, Evan Hornyak. They plan to expand the agricultural tourism side of the business.

Kate Hornyak“This is something I am very passionate about because I love families to be able to experience the way a farm operates when they visit. Being in this wonderful production over the years has opened my eyes, allowing me to see that not everyone is as fortunate as I am. By being in agriculture, I can now lead in my community and teach the next generation about this outstanding industry we are a part of.”

Ellen graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s in Agri-science Education, followed by Franklin University with a master’s in Human Resources Management. Ellen is employed at Select Sires, Inc. in Plain City, OH as the Manager of Human Resources and Compliance. Ellen is a Delaware County 4-H advisor and a member of the Buckeye Valley FFA Alumni. Ellen lives north of Delaware with her husband, Dakota, and two young children.

Jeff Taute

My name is Jeff Taute. I’ve been a self-employed stucco and stone company for the last 30 years. Fairly new to farming and absolutely love it. I’m learning that ins and outs of crop farming. I have cattle, sheep, and chickens. I am being taught by my friend and mentor Kevin Scott.

The plan we are on is great. It’s comparable to my previous job's plan, and we are a sole proprietor.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Bringing the farm back to life
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
