Cinnamon, nutmeg and apples! This delicious fall recipe calls for Granny Smith apples and Moeller Brew Barn OH HELLES brew, though any wheat beer will do!

Makes 1 loaf

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1 large Granny Smith apple, peeled and chopped (about 1 ½ cups)
  • 12 ounces Moeller Brew Barn OH HELLES (or any wheat beer)
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut in cubes

Directions

Bread

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, pecans, cinnamon, nutmeg and apple pieces. Pour beer and melted butter into dry ingredients, stir until just combined. Pour into a greased 1½ quart loaf pan.

Caramel Sauce

In a medium saucepan over high heat, add sugar, water and butter. Stir constantly until butter is melted. Allow to come to a low boil, may need to reduce heat slightly, but keep at a low boil. Continue to boil, without stirring for 4-5 minutes, until the mixture has turned amber in color. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 1 minute. Do not allow to harden.

Pour caramel sauce over batter in loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 – 55 minutes. Allow to cool before removing from loaf pan.
