You can substitute some of the cider for brown ale or cranberry juice. Also changing up the spices could be really interesting, such as allspice, clove or even peppercorn. This also holds well as a big batch warm inside a crock pot.
Makes 4 cupsIngredients
- 4 cups apple cider
- 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
- 2 lemons, sliced
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 ounce vanilla bean or ¼ ounce vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 ounces bourbon of your choice, per drink
Directions
In a medium saucepan combine all ingredients except the bourbon. Simmer for at least 30 minutes to one hour. Use a jigger to measure bourbon into mugs, strain and pour hot spiced cider into mugs.
