County Farm Bureaus around Ohio provide ag literacy programs to enhance students’ knowledge about agriculture. Ohio Farm Bureau and county Farm Bureaus sponsor and partner with Ohio FFA and Ohio 4-H programs.
The goal of Agriculture in the Classroom is to “increase agricultural literacy through K-12 education.” AITC is unique within the agricultural education community as the lead organization to serve the full spectrum of K-12 formal education.
The National Agricultural Literacy Curriculum Matrix is an online, searchable, and standards-based curriculum map for K-12 teachers. The Matrix contextualizes national education standards in science, social studies, and nutrition education with relevant instructional resources linked to Common Core Standards.
Ohio Farm Bureau has begun offering Ag Literacy Volunteer Training. Contact your county Farm Bureau for information on the training session schedule.
Presented by Nationwide, Ohio FFA, Ohio Farm Bureau, Farm Credit Mid-America and AgCredit, the Golden Owl Award recognizes agricultural educators across Ohio for their tremendous contributions to helping the next generation of agricultural leaders and crowns the Ohio Agricultural Educator of the Year. Students, fellow teachers and other supporters can nominate their favorite agricultural teacher who is currently teaching agricultural education courses at the secondary (middle/high school) level. The annual nomination cycle opens Sept. 1 and closes Dec. 31.
