June 14, Mercer County Farm Bureau hosted the first Western Ohio Agriculture in the Classroom Conference at MVP Dairy in Celina. This one-day event offered teachers new learning opportunities to share with their classrooms while experiencing new opportunities in agriculture. Keynote speaker was Jeanne Gogoiski, CEO of EducationProjects.org. Breakout sessions included:
Strong as an Egg: What does an egg have to do with architecture and strength? by Lisa Kahlig, Cooper Farms;
Food Science: Learn several hands-on food science activities you can incorporate into the classroom by Michelle Langmeyer;
My Plate: A lesson on nutrition and agriculture by Karen Bakies, registered dietitian; and
Agriculture Literacy: Spend some time learning where to find accurate agriculture books, and how to best incorporate them into your curriculum by Lindi Kocher, education coordinator, Indiana Farm Bureau.
