Fairfield County, Ohio

One of the hottest topics to date is the Land Use Plan proposed by the Fairfield County Commissioners. Several meetings have been held over the past year in each of the townships in Fairfield County. A meeting was also held back in the spring hosted by the Fairfield County Farm Bureau. Several members attended to learn about the proposed land use plan, to ask questions, and to express concerns. Commissioner Jeffrey Fix gave the presentation and fielded several questions. Following that meeting, the Fairfield County Farm Bureau appointed three board members to serve as a research committee on the proposed plan. Lynne Schultz, Kyle Sharp, and Mike Wolfe have had the opportunity to meet with Commissioner Fix on several occasions to serve as advocates for agriculture. From those meetings, some recommendations have been made and Commissioner Fix wishes to bring an update on the plan back to our members.

On Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., Fairfield County Farm Bureau will once again host a Land Use Plan update meeting in Ricketts Hall on the grounds of the Fairfield County Fair. All Farm Bureau members are encouraged to attend. Please contact the county Farm Bureau office at 740-474-6284 to reserve your spot.

The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
The plan we are on is great. It’s comparable to my previous job's plan, and we are a sole proprietor.

Finding farm labor
I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
We work terrifically with the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau, hosting at least one to two outreach town hall events every year to educate new farmers and existing farmers on traditional CAUV and woodlands.

CAUV: Past, present and future
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
