2022 Steer Show

During the 2022 Ohio State Fair, Bill Patterson (pictured right), Ohio Farm Bureau president, and Ty Higgins (left), senior director of media relations and communications for Ohio Farm Bureau, will join Cathann A. Kress, vice president for Agricultural Administration and dean of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, for the 2022 Dean’s Charity Steer Show benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio.

The Aug. 2 show and sale at the Ohio Expo Center will feature teams consisting of a local celebrity exhibitor, media personality and a 4-H member and their steer. The Ohio Farm Bureau team includes an experienced 4-H family, the O’Reillys, who will be showing Patterson and Higgins the ropes.

Awards will include best steer, best dressed, showmanship and people’s choice. During the event, there will be a “sale” following the same procedures as a typical livestock sale, but without the actual transfer of livestock. Instead, all bids and sale proceeds will be donated to RMHC.

CFAES, the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association and Telhio Credit Union are sponsors of the event. Donations can be made to the Ohio Farm Bureau team by visiting through Aug. 31.

To grow a network and gain perspective and knowledge in the industry through personal and professional development has been invaluable. Every day I learn and grow.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Bringing the farm back to life
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
