Read MoreWe hope that by promoting agricultural products within the food industry and thanking the farmers for what they do, we can continue to build leadership within our county farm bureaus through selfless service.
As American Farm Bureau Federation’s President, Zippy Duvall, once said, “Leadership is about selfless service.” Within our four counties, we not only strive to create events and benefits for our members, but we also provide for our communities and the ones that need it most.
Weekly, Brown County Farm Bureau members and staff meet at the local food pantry, Helping Hands in Christian Service, which is located in Georgetown, Ohio. While volunteering, members help unload semi trucks full of pallets, separating food into categories, and creating bags of frozen meat to hand out to the ones who need it most.
During the warm, summer months we also partner with the Adams Brown Community Action Partnership to hand out boxed meals filled with grocery items to families within the counties. This is a great time to give back to those in the community that have struggled since the pandemic.
Additionally, an annual event that our counties continue to host and collaborate on is our Feed a Farmer event. We know that during harvest season, it can be hard to find a time to get out of the combine or grain truck to grab a bite to eat. While farmers drop their grain off to our local farm supply stores, they are able to pick up two sack lunches with a sandwich, drink, bag of chips and a dessert – one for them and one for the person out in the field.
This past holiday season, Adams County Farm Bureau handed out locally sourced packs of eggs and sausage in the center of town. Those passing through received these items as a gift and as a way to tip our hats to the hard-working farmers who produce the food and fiber that we all enjoy year-round.
Our county Farm Bureau staff and members know that it’s crucial to not only provide for those in the community that need it the most, but to provide for the ones that provide for us on a daily basis. We hope that by promoting agricultural products within the food industry and thanking the farmers for what they do, we can continue to build leadership within our county Farm Bureaus through selfless-service.
