Congratulations to Becky McClelland with Chesapeake Elementary for being named as the recipient of a $250 scholarship toward her “From Seed to Salad” project!
Lawrence County Farm Bureau held its first Farm to Fork event Aug. 31, 2023. The Farm to Fork Event showcases local foods and agricultural commodities through a dinner on the farm. This event is a ticketed event, raising funds to promote agricultural literacy in our community schools. The funds raised through this event provided the opportunity for McClelland’s students to grow tower gardens and incorporate fruit plants. This school year her students have been growing all kinds of plants! With this project the students have learned about plant management, measuring, cleaning and cutting of the items they have grown. The kids have done a fantastic job this year and we can’t wait to see what Mrs. McClelland is up to next! Along with providing the teacher scholarship, Farm Bureau was also able to place the American Farm Bureau Foundation Book of the Year, along with the curriculum, in the hands of each elementary school in the county!
Join us Aug. 22, 2024 for the 2nd annual Farm to Fork event at the Hay Loft in Kitts Hill! Please feel free to call the office at 740-201-2739 or email us at lawrence@ofbf.org with any questions about the event or ticketing!
