Lawrence County Farm Bureau hosts 3rd Annual Ring on the River open beef show

Lawrence County Farm Bureau hosted Ring on the River Sept. 29 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds with Judge Levi Richards evaluating the animals.

The 3rd annual Ring on the River open beef show had 20 prospect heifer entries, one prospect market heifer entry, and 19 prospect steer entries. There were payouts for the top three in each class along with the top five overall prospect heifers and top five overall prospect market feeders. After the prospect show was over, we held showmanship broken down into three divisions. We had 11 take part in senior showmanship, eight in intermediate showmanship and 14 in beginner showmanship. Each showmanship participant was able to go home with a new rope halter, and the top two in each division took home a new feed pan or new water bucket.

A goal since the start of the show has been to raise awareness about breast cancer. Each year we collect items and money to go toward chemo care bags to take to the local hospitals. This year we collected over $290 to help put toward the bags.

Thank you to our various sponsors who helped to make the day a success!

The plan we are on is great. It’s comparable to my previous job's plan, and we are a sole proprietor.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
