Lawrence County Farm Bureau hosts 4th Annual Ring on the River open beef show

Lawrence County Farm Bureau hosted Ring on the River, Sept. 28 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds. Judge Kyle Nickles evaluated the animals.

The 4th annual Ring on the River open beef show had 16 prospect heifer entries, five prospect market heifer entries, and 16 prospect steer entries. There were payouts for the top three in each class along with the top five overall prospect heifers and top five overall prospect market feeders. After the prospect show was over, we held showmanship broken down into three divisions. We had eight take part in senior showmanship, 11 in intermediate showmanship and six in beginner showmanship. The top two in each division took home a new feed pan.

The goal since the start of the show has been to raise awareness about breast cancer. Each year we collect items and money to go toward chemo care bags to take to the local hospitals. This year we collected over $267 to help put toward the bags.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Bringing the farm back to life
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
