Read MoreOn Jan. 6-11,2023, five individuals from Fayette County Farm Bureau attended the 2023 American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Fayette County Farm Bureau won a County Activity of Excellence award and got to showcase their efforts at the AFBF Convention trade show.
This year AFBF received more than 143 entries across all membership categories, with only 24 activities nationwide being selected to win County Activities of Excellence awards. These counties got to present their projects at the convention and 11 of those activities that were selected were from Ohio.
Representing Fayette County at the American Farm Bureau annual convention and trade show were Organization Director Ashley Rose, Bob Peterson, Lisa Peterson, Kameron Rinehart and Zach Sollars. While on this trip they had the opportunity to discuss and explain with other local and state Farm Bureaus from across the nation
Fayette County’s award-winning program is “Storytime With a Farmer.” Helping children learn where food comes from and who grows it was the goal of the program. Having farmers read books about agriculture to children at an elementary school, library, and online was a highly effective way to build awareness and understanding of the industry.
Lisa Peterson said, “Attending the AFBF annual meeting in Puerto Rico was a great opportunity to showcase Fayette County’s program, Storytime with a Farmer. We had the opportunity to share about the program with folks during the trade show. Spending time networking with farmers from across the country, attending educational sessions, cheering on the Ohio YF&R finalists, and spending a little time in the sun is good for the soul!”
