On June 21, 2023 the Gallia County Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a grain safety tube and training. The Nominate Your Fire Department Contest ran from Jan. 1 through April 30 and awards grain rescue tubes and hands-on training to help first responders save lives.
Each year Ohio Farm Bureau has the opportunity to help support this opportunity, where the selection is done by Nationwide. This year, applications were put in for Gallia County’s District 2 fire departments.
Nationwide came to the Gallia County Fairgrounds to facilitate the grain bin safety training program for 22 volunteer firefighters in attendance. They were able to take part in classroom time as well as the hands-on training in the mock grain bin.
Thank you to the Ohio Farm Bureau and Nationwide! Thank you to the Gallia County Fairgrounds for letting us use the show ring for the training, and thanks to our members Gary Truance and Rob Massie for bringing the corn and the auger to load the training trailer.
