The Clermont County Farm Bureau has launched a new Sustainable Agriculture Internship Program, thanks to a grant from the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation. This program connects local students with 18 farms and agricultural businesses, offering hands-on experience in sustainable farming. Through partnerships with Grant Career Center, Clermont County Soil and Water, Ohio State Extension 4-H, and the Clermont County Educational Service Center, students will explore careers in agriculture, gain workforce readiness skills, and learn directly from experienced professionals.
To kick off the program, an Open House was held Jan. 28 at Grant Career Center, bringing together students, parents, and farm representatives. Attendees met local farmers, learned about available internships, had the opportunity to try locally sourced foods, and heard from community leaders who support the initiative. Several community leaders spoke at the event to show their support for the program. Barry Daulton, principal of Grant Career Center, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, noting that it has been a long-time dream of his to create such an opportunity for students. With this collaboration, students have the opportunity to build real-world skills while strengthening local agriculture.
