Kassandra Simmons

Hello everyone! My name is Kassandra Simmons, and I am excited to join the Central Ohio Farm Bureaus this summer as an intern, serving the counties of Delaware, Franklin, Madison, and Union. I am a 2024 graduate of West Jefferson High School and have just completed my freshman year at Wilmington College, where I am majoring in agribusiness with a minor in accounting.

I was raised in West Jefferson, surrounded by a strong agricultural community that fostered my early interest in the industry. My passion for agriculture began while working on a horse farm for nearly three years during school. I was also an active member of the Fairfield Rascals 4-H Club, where I raised and showed Boer goats. In addition to my agricultural involvement, I was the senior class president and a student-athlete, serving as a varsity captain in basketball and softball.

As I considered my future, I knew I wanted a career rooted in agriculture, which led me to Wilmington College. During my first year, I was fortunate to participate in several enriching experiences, including assisting with the Horse Judging Career Development Event at the National FFA Convention in October and attending the Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Leaders Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, in November. These events provided me with valuable insight and inspired me to continue advocating for the agricultural industry.

On campus, I am actively involved in multiple organizations, including Gamma Beta Eta Lil Sis (where I serve as assistant pledge mistress), Collegiate Farm Bureau, Aggies and Collegiate 4-H, the Agricultural Education Society, and the Ag Communicators of Tomorrow. These groups have allowed me to grow professionally and build connections with others who share my passion for agriculture.

I would like to thank the Central Ohio Farm Bureaus for this incredible opportunity to further develop my skills and contribute to the agricultural community. I’m truly looking forward to a meaningful and impactful summer!

To grow a network and gain perspective and knowledge in the industry through personal and professional development has been invaluable. Every day I learn and grow.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Bringing the farm back to life
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
