Ohio Farm Bureau scholarships

Michele MillerMichele Miller was a true believer in the importance of agriculture and supporting those in the skilled trades. She was the wife, mother and grandmother to farmers and true friend of agriculture! She understood that blue collar jobs were the heartbeat of all things essential for everyday living. As a board member of the Ottawa County Farm Bureau, she strived to educate everyone she came in contact with about the importance of Farm Bureau and the diversity of our members.

She believed in the importance of skilled trades professions — from electricians and mechanics to farmers and welders — and the vital role they play in building, sustaining, and feeding our communities. Her mission was to support those who are committed to these careers and who value the dignity of working with their hands, solving real-world problems, and contributing to the foundation of our economy.

Michele Miller Trades and Farming Memorial Scholarship was created to support individuals who are passionate about pursuing careers in skilled trades, agriculture, and related hands-on professions. This scholarship is rooted in the belief that skilled trades and farming are not only essential to our daily lives, but also worthy of recognition, respect, and investment.

Whether you are beginning your training or continuing your education, we welcome applicants who demonstrate a strong work ethic, a clear vision for their future, and a commitment to excellence in their field. More than just financial aid, this scholarship represents an investment in the next generation of tradespeople and farmers — the builders, makers, and growers who keep our world running.

Eligibility:

  • Open to students and aspiring professionals enrolled in accredited trade schools, agricultural programs, apprenticeships, or high school seniors pursuing specialized trades instead of a college education after graduation.
  • Students who are pursuing a CDL with the intent to use for agricultural use. CDL applicants must be between the ages of 18-25. Agriculture use could include but is not limited to: transportation of agricultural goods, products to and from the farm, hauling livestock, etc.
  • Must be a dependent of/or current Ottawa County Farm Bureau member in good standing.

Scholarship Amount: Covers the cost of tools and/or supplies essential for pursuing a career in the specified trade or CDL course up to $500.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Bringing the farm back to life
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
