The Montgomery County Farm Bureau gave over 150 pounds of McGuire Family Farms chicken to Community Action Mission Project in Farmersville for families in need this Thanksgiving. CAMP began in 1998 to meet the ever increasing needs of the residents of Farmersville, Germantown and New Lebanon in Montgomery County, Ohio.

Each year, CAMP distributes Thanksgiving Box meals to those in need. Montgomery County Farm Bureau has a commitment to support our farm and food community. There is no better way to accomplish that goal than to purchase from a local farm and donate to our local food bank. For instance, we are grateful for the opportunity to work with McGuire Family Farms from Germantown for this project.

You may be asking yourself why chickens instead of the iconic turkey meal for Thanksgiving. Research shows that one in five families will only have two or more people to serve Thanksgiving dinner to. Consequently, most of those families do not have the equipment to cook a large turkey. CAMP including chicken in their Thanksgiving Box meals ensures that all families will have a hearty Thanksgiving meal.

Do you want to be involved in our service projects in the future? You can send us a message at [email protected] and we will get you plugged in!

The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
The plan we are on is great. It’s comparable to my previous job's plan, and we are a sole proprietor.

Finding farm labor
We work terrifically with the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau, hosting at least one to two outreach town hall events every year to educate new farmers and existing farmers on traditional CAUV and woodlands.

CAUV: Past, present and future
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
