Ask any Ohio farmer to provide a wish list of items that would help them succeed, and favorable weather conditions would probably be at the top of the list! In addition, those working in the agriculture industry may wish for more time, funding and a dependable workforce. While wishes for better weather may not always come true, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation has a variety of 2022 grant opportunities aimed to help those working in the agriculture industry.  

Trench Safety Grants

If you do any type of digging on your farm, this grant could be crucial in helping you get the work done safely! Employees who work in trenches must be protected when they are in a trench with unsafe soil conditions and always when the trench is deeper than five feet. The BWC Trench Safety Grant allows employers to purchase shoring, shielding and other equipment to keep their employees safe. This grant will match $4 to every $1 spent (up to $12,000).

Workplace Wellness Grants

In agriculture, a dependable and healthy employee can be one of your greatest assets in continued success. The BWC Workplace Wellness Grant is open to state-fund employers with no existing workplace wellness program. This grant offers up to $15,000 to create training and programs to reduce employees’ health risk factors. Funding can be used for health risk appraisals, smoking cessation classes, exercise classes, nutrition classes and more.

Drug-Free Safety Program Grants

If you have employees operating heavy equipment and machinery or working in the fields, factory or kitchen, promoting a safe, drug-free space is essential. Drug-Free Safety Program Grants offer reimbursement for employee education and supervisor training, as well as drug-free workplace policy development. Employers must be participating in BWC’s Drug-Free Safety Program to qualify.
