Lawrence County Farm Bureau hosted its 2nd annual Ring on the River, Oct. 1 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.
The 2nd annual Ring on the River beef show had 43 prospect beef entries. There were two main goals of the show. The first was to host an open beef show for the kids of Lawrence County: There were three classes of prospect heifers, one class of market heifers and five classes of prospect steers. Along with the prospect classes we were able to hold a senior, intermediate and beginner showmanship with 27 kids participating.
The second goal was focused on our community as it has had several people we love fight the battle of breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we thought what better way to show support to those loved ones than to dedicate the show to them. We collected and are still collecting items to place in “chemo care bags.” These bags will be donated to our local hospitals for those patients going through cancer treatment. Last year we were able to donate 200 bags and we are hoping to hit that number again this year.
