Note: In italics are the changes that were made from last year’s policy.
Local/ County
1. We continue to support funding for The Ohio State University Extension- Huron County.
2. We support an income tax base for school levies and public safety services with a reduction in real estate taxes.
3. We support better vegetative control along roadways and encourage earlier mowing in the summer, especially to avoid safety risks of impaired vision at intersections and crossings.
4. We oppose any additional permits and/or restrictions related to overweight and over width agriculture related equipment and vehicles traveling on county & township roads.
5. We request the removal of limited access signage from the U.S. Route 20 bypass there by allowing farm machinery to avoid the serious safety risks of other through and around (Norwalk).
6. We support the improvement and combination of all county emergency entities into one countywide 911 system.
7. We support that rural broadband should have equal & economic availability for all county residents.
8. We support county land use decisions based on sound planning, protecting natural resources, and transparent public engagement.
9. We support utility companies (contracted or self-installing) that are installing new utilities (fuel, fiber, electric, water, etc.) to work with local townships, county/state engineers to install utilities within road/utility right-of-way. We also encourage these parties to work with landowners, townships, and county/state engineers to make sure that installation of these utilities does not disrupt water movement, any property damage is restored to original state, and to maintain current property access during and after installation.
10. We support Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) transitioning to Deer Management Assistant Program (DMAP) in addition to the Deer Damage Control Permit (DDCP).
11. We support requiring all law enforcement officers to obtain a warrant or consent, emergency response, or observe an injured person or wildlife to access private land.
State
1. We encourage drug testing for unemployment and family assistance (former welfare) recipients and if the test is positive then they lose that benefit; without sending them to rehabilitation.
2. We support proper safety signage and warnings on U.S. and state routes.
3. We support county land use decisions based on sound planning, protecting natural resources, and transparent public engagement.
