Ohio Farm Bureau Scholarships Criteria
The Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation offers 17 scholarships each year, supporting students preparing for careers in agriculture as well as adults pursuing continuing education in agriculture-related fields. In addition, every county Farm Bureau provides its own local scholarships, further expanding opportunities for students across Ohio.

Bill and Helen Swank Scholarship
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant or parents of applicant must be Ohio Farm Bureau member
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- An accredited two-year technical school.
- An accredited four‑year college or university program.
- An accredited graduate program.
- Special consideration will be given to the following applicants:
- Graduates of ExploreAg
- Applicants who have served as an intern or State Fair Ambassadors at Ohio Farm Bureau
Bruce and Carlene Patterson Agricultural Scholarship
- Applicant must be a United States citizen and resident of Portage County, Ohio.
- Applicant must meet at least one of the following:
- A high school graduate enrolled in, or with plans to enroll in, a post-secondary degree or training program in agriculture or related fields. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.
- An individual employed in agriculture or related fields, with plans to pursue training or educational programs in agriculture or related fields.
- A beginning farmer with plans to pursue training or educational programs in agriculture or related fields.
- Traditional students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
- There are no age restrictions.
Cindy Hollingshead Scholarship
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant or parents of applicant must be Ohio Farm Bureau member
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- An accredited two-year technical school.
- An accredited four‑year college or university program.
- An accredited graduate program.
- Applicant /Scholarship Recipient may reapply annually.
- While the Applicant does not need to be pursuing a degree directly connected to a school and/or college of agriculture, they must explain how a particular aspect of the field of agriculture or community development (food production, scientific research, education/outreach, marketing, policymaking, advocacy, leadership development) pursued by the applicant benefits from their career plans.
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant or parents of applicant must be Ohio Farm Bureau member
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- An accredited two-year technical school.
- An accredited four‑year college or university program.
- An accredited graduate program.
- Applicant /Scholarship Recipient may reapply annually.
- While the applicant does not need to be pursuing a degree directly connected to a school and/or college of agriculture, they must explain how a particular aspect of the field of agriculture or community development (food production, scientific research, education/outreach, marketing, policymaking, advocacy, leadership development) pursued by the applicant benefits from their career plans.
David E. Mizer Memorial Scholarship
- Applicants must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant, parent or legal guardian, must be a current member of the Harrison County Farm Bureau, Belmont County Farm Bureau, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, or Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau (with preference given to Harrison County Farm Bureau applicants).
- Recipient must be a high school senior, graduate, or current post-secondary student, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 GPA scale (or 3.1 equivalent on a 5.0 GPA scale), with plans to enroll, or are already enrolled, in a vocational school, trade school, accredited two-year technical school, or a four-year post-secondary college or university in the United States seeking a degree in dairy science, food science, agriculture, or a related field.
Dr. David A. Benfield Scholarship for Students in Livestock and Crop Sciences at ATI
- Applicants must be a second-year student in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher at Ohio State ATI.
- Applicants must be enrolled in crop and livestock degree programs.
- Applicants should also have some leadership experience through involvement in student organization(s), 4-H, FFA, or industry associations.
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio
- Applicant or parents of applicant must be Ohio Farm Bureau member.
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- An accredited two-year technical school.
- An accredited four‑year college or university program.
- An accredited graduate program.
- Applicant /Scholarship Recipient may reapply annually.
John Wallace and James Wallace Douglas Scholarship
- Applicants must be a resident of Trumbull County, Ohio.
- Applicant, parent or legal guardian, must be a current member of the Trumbull County Farm Bureau.
- Applicant must be a junior or senior currently enrolled in a post-secondary college or university in the United States seeking a degree in agriculture, food science, or a related field with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Joseph Kelly Memorial Scholarship
- Recipient must be a high school graduate from Lorain County or have graduated from a Lorain County School District in Ohio.
- Recipient must be enrolled in or have plans to enroll in a post-secondary college or university in the United States seeking a degree related to agriculture.
- Applicant /Scholarship Recipient may reapply annually.
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant or parents of the applicant must be Ohio Farm Bureau members from the following counties: Ashland, Ashtabula, Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Knox, Lake, Licking, Mahoning, Medina, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas, Washington, Wayne.
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program with plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or a four-year college or university program.
- A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program with plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or a four-year college or university program.
- An accredited two-year technical school.
- An accredited four-year college
Lou Ann Putnam Harrold Memorial Scholarship Fund for Hardin County
- Applicant must be a resident of Hardin County, Ohio.
- Applicant must be a high school senior, with a minimum GPA of 3.0, enrolled in, or planning to enroll in a post-secondary college or university in the United States seeking a degree in education, agriculture or a related field.
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant must be a high school graduate or an individual enrolled in or planning to enroll in a post-secondary vocational training program, college, or university in the United States seeking accreditation, certification, or a degree related to welding.
Ohio Farm Bureau Ambassadors Scholarship
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant or parents of applicant must be Ohio Farm Bureau member
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- An accredited four‑year college or university program.
- Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and be seeking a degree in agriculture or an agriculture-related field.
Ohio Farm Bureau Founders Scholarship
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant or parents of applicant must be Ohio Farm Bureau member
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- An accredited two-year technical school.
- An accredited four‑year college or university program.
- An accredited graduate program.
- Applicant /Scholarship Recipient may reapply annually.
- While the applicant does not need to be pursuing a degree directly connected to a school and/or college of agriculture, they must explain how a particular aspect of the field of agriculture or community development (food production, scientific research, education/outreach, marketing, policymaking, advocacy, leadership development) pursued by the applicant benefits from their career plans.
Ohio Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association Scholarship (HBPA)
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant must be a graduating high school senior with plans to attend a two or four-year college or university located in Ohio.
- Applicant must have plans to pursue a certificate/degree related to agriculture.
Richard & Carole Cocks Scholarship
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant must be pursuing an agriculture related degree.
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- An accredited two-year technical school.
- An accredited four‑year college or university program.
- An accredited graduate program.
- Applicant/Scholarship recipient may reapply annually.
- First preference for this scholarship will be given to applicants or parents of the applicants who are members of the Ohio Farm Bureau.
Yvonne Lesicko Memorial Scholarship
- Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
- Applicant or parents of applicant must be Ohio Farm Bureau member
- Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
- An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- A course of study leading to completion in an accredited GED program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four–year college or university program.
- An accredited two-year technical school.
- An accredited four‑year college or university program.
- An accredited graduate program.
- Applicants must major in/participate in one of the following programs:
- Agricultural and environmental policy
- Agriculture-related fields, such as food production, scientific research, education/outreach
- Policymaking or advocacy
- Leadership development for women
- Applicant /Scholarship Recipient may reapply annually.
