Sage’s Apples has been a family farm for nearly 150 years. Purchased in 1867 by Ransom Alden Sage, the property was turned into an orchard by his grandson, Allen and his wife, Eleanor Timmons Sage. The farm is now run by Allen and Eleanor’s son, Bob.
The Ransom Sage farm is a sister farm to Sage’s Apples, run by Ben Sage who is a fifth-generation Sage farmer raised on the farm.
Sage’s Apples have over 50 varieties of apples, all are sold through their year-round farm market. Seasonally they grow various other products such as sweet corn, peaches, red raspberries, blueberries, green beans, grapes, pears, and plums. They supplement their produce with other locally grown fruit, vegetables, maple syrup, cider, jams, honey, popcorn, apple butter, and many more products.
They have recently started a U-pick operation with red raspberries, table grapes, blueberries, apples, and fall decorative squash and pumpkins with availability from mid-June into October. This operation is located at the Ransom Sage Farm entrance on Rte 44 (Center St.).
They enjoy trying new apple varieties and now have a series developed by a group of Ohio growers such as Evercrisp, Rosalee, Sweet Zinger, and Ludacrisp. These will be available at the Sage’s Apples Rte 6/Chardon Rd. market, as well as the Ransom Sage pick your own.
Sage’s Apples is a must-see in Geauga County.
Visit them online, on their Facebook page, or on their farm.
