Highland County Farm Bureau holds 2026 Policy Development Meeting

The Highland County Farm Bureau held its 2026 Policy Development Meeting Feb. 2, 2026 to identify and discuss key issues affecting the local community and the agricultural industry. With 20 in attendance, the event was attended by Farm Bureau members, elected officials, and community leaders. This meeting is a fundamental component of Ohio Farm Bureau’s grassroots efforts, a process where members directly influence the organization’s legislative priorities and internal policies by proposing solutions to current challenges.

A primary focus of the discussion was property tax reform in Ohio and its impact on local landowners. Participants also discussed various land use and regulatory issues, including the development of data centers, countywide zoning and updated legislation regarding septic systems.

The meeting also covered broader community concerns, including the drug epidemic, local crime, and the rise of financial scams. By addressing these public health and safety issues alongside agricultural policy, Farm Bureau aims to represent the comprehensive interests of its members.

The policy recommendations drafted during this session will be reviewed at the county level before moving forward for consideration in the statewide Ohio Farm Bureau policy platform.

My first recommendation in your journey is to start out with a local farming friend or mentor along with joining an organization like Ohio Farm Bureau.

New and beginning farmers
We’re just so thankful for the Farm Bureau and the foundation for helping put this together. And of course, the Boyert family for the vision they had with this grant. It’s jumping us forward 10 years. It’s unbelievable.

Youth pathways in Farm Bureau
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
