Bee education in Scioto County

Scioto County Farm Bureau is proud to collaborate with several community partners to support an exciting new educational initiative. Working alongside South Central Ohio ESC, OSU Extension–Scioto County, the Scioto County Beekeepers Association, Fuhrmann’s Orchard, Scioto County Soil & Water Conservation District, and KB Flower Farm, we’ve helped develop a comprehensive curriculum designed to bring the world of bees and pollination into local classrooms.

“What’s All the Buzz About” is a specialized training program created by Adam Michael of the South Central Ohio ESC. The program equips teachers with the knowledge and resources to teach students about the vital role bees play in agriculture and the environment. By blending literacy, science standards, and local agricultural connections, the initiative supports hands‑on, relevant learning experiences across Scioto County.

A key goal of the program is collaboration—educators are encouraged to share ideas, build meaningful connections with local experts, and create a lasting curriculum resource for future classrooms.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation, every district in Scioto County has received a resource kit filled with books, materials, and teacher guides to support implementation.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all partnering organizations and to the dedicated teachers who participated in today’s training. Together, we’re helping students understand—and appreciate—the importance of bees in our community.

To grow a network and gain perspective and knowledge in the industry through personal and professional development has been invaluable. Every day I learn and grow.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Bringing the farm back to life
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
