Hello f
riends! My name is Aryn Copeland. Originally from Crawford County, I’m currently a senior at Wilmington College studying agricultural communication and sustainability. While I didn’t grow up on a farm, I was involved in 4-H for 13 years and truly found my passion for ag as a member of the Wynford FFA Chapter. I’ve been able to hone in on that passion at WC, serving this year as president of the Wilmington College Collegiate Farm Bureau, participating in the collegiate discussion meet, and attending multiple ag lobby trips. Being involved with WC Collegiate Farm Bureau has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I’m excited to share with you some of our accomplishments in the next few segments.
Wilmington College Ag Lobby
The Wilmington College Ag Lobby trip is a tradition running six years strong. For the week of Sept. 30, 32 students were in Washington, D.C. speaking with interest groups, USDA, and the Mexican and Canadian embassies to gain knowledge on the USMCA and took to the Hill on Tuesday to share their stories with their representatives.
Lake Erie Climate Expedition
More than two dozen students and faculty will travel this October to Lake Erie to participate in a “Climate Expedition” in coordination with Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory. The trip will focus on mitigation strategies to reduce harmful algal blooms on Lake Erie and will include an overnight stay on South Bass Island, climate cruise, and stop at the Blanchard River Demonstration Farms in northwest Ohio.
Annual Hunger Banquet
As a part of the Earth Day festivities on campus, the Wilmington College Collegiate Farm Bureau hosted their newly-developed “Hunger Banquet.” This unique event was designed to teach students and help them recognize the growing issue of food insecurity.
What YOU can do
Wilmington College Collegiate Farm Bureau strives to cultivate an environment of learning. This year, we are working to bring guests to campus to share their expertise with us. Our hope is that by bringing industry professionals to our campus, we can participate in and promote open dialogue surrounding different issues facing our industry. If you are interested in sharing your knowledge with us, please contact me!
