Ohio Farm Bureau is working for you and your family. This blog is all about the value of membership with the Ohio Farm Bureau.
Other than joining an organization with grassroots efforts to change and create policy and make way for the next generation of agriculturalists, here are some reasons why you should join the Ohio Farm Bureau.
If you have employees or own a business, Farm Bureau:
- Protected the agricultural sales tax exemption
- Fought for and secured farmer access to Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program
If you care about 4-H and FFA, Farm Bureau:
- Advocated for and preserved funding for local services including OSU Extension, Soil and Water, OARDC, OSU Wooster-ATI, high school ag education career tech and FFA.
- Supported 4-H Foundation and Youth Reserve Program resulting in millions of dollars for scholarships to 4-H youth
If you care about young farmers, youth engagement, and investing in the future agricultural workforce, Farm Bureau:
- Created legislation for the Beginning Farmer Tax credit proposal that passed the Ohio House
- Supports collegiate Farm Bureau programs at The Ohio State University and Wilmington College
If you grow crops, Farm Bureau:
- Successfully fought Ohio EPA attempts to regulate commercial fertilizer as a pollutant
- Preserved use of critical crop protection products
If you care about farm stress, Farm Bureau:
- Created the Farm Stress Collaborative that has brought together ag and mental health experts for first time to create and provide resources
If you care about how farmers are portrayed in the media, Farm Bureau:
- Works with media nearly every day to help them better understand agriculture

- Builds long term, strong relationships with Ohio policymakers which allows access and a voice for our members.

My first recommendation in your journey is to start out with a local farming friend or mentor along with joining an organization like Ohio Farm Bureau.
We’re just so thankful for the Farm Bureau and the foundation for helping put this together. And of course, the Boyert family for the vision they had with this grant. It’s jumping us forward 10 years. It’s unbelievable.
I could not have done it without the resources I have found through Farm Bureau.
It wasn’t until I joined the Wilmington College Collegiate Farm Bureau that I truly saw how my passion could translate into leadership, advocacy and a career.
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.
