Read MoreWith over 75 commercial stables and countless passionate owners, Geauga County is home to one of Ohio’s most vibrant equine communities with more horses per capita than almost anywhere else in the state.
A single horse can produce close to 9 tons of manure a year making managing the manure a daily task that can present opportunities. The manure can be a valuable resource for farming, gardening and landscaping when handled properly. Typically a single ton of horse manure contains around 11lbs of nitrogen, 2lbs of phosphorus, and 8lbs of potassium which are essential macronutrients for plan health, growth, and soil fertility.
Our friends at Geauga County Soil and Water Conservation District are inviting you to complete an anonymous survey to count the number of horses in Geauga County. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete. The information will be used to help determine the amount of manure that is being generated to identify options of composting and manure removal that will benefit horse owners in our county.
You will have the ability to review the results of the survey, how the information is used, and resources as they are identified and available at geaugaswcd.com.
Click here to take the survey or call 440.834.1122 to have your responses added.
