Ohio Farm Bureau recently testified in support of House Bill 773, legislation that would allow Ohio Turnpike travel plazas to offer E15 at the 14 plazas along its 241‑mile route between the Indiana and Pennsylvania state borders.

Otherwise known as Unleaded 88, E15 provides opportunities to expand access to a cost-effective fuel choice for consumers, while creating additional demand for Ohio-grown corn.

While E15 has become more available in recent years, and year-round E15 legislation is currently in motion at the federal level, access remains limited across Ohio with only about 200 fuel stations offering the fuel blend.

Introduced by Reps. Josh Williams and Roy Klopfenstein, HB 773 would increase awareness and accessibility for retailers and consumers across Ohio, while creating additional market opportunities for the state’s corn farmers. E15 is estimated to save motorists an average of 18% at the pump, significantly reduce carbon emissions and provide higher octane for improved engine performance.

The legislation also comes at a critical time for Ohio farm families. Agriculture continues to face low crop prices, high input costs and ongoing market uncertainty. The expansion of access to E15 would help create additional demand for corn and strengthen a domestic opportunity for farmers and fuel retailers.

“Agriculture in Ohio is currently facing a generational set of economic challenges not seen since the 1980s, and our farmers have waited far too long for a policy environment that reflects today’s economic realities,” said Brad Bales, senior director of state and national policy for Ohio Farm Bureau. “While recent progress on the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 and the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act of 2025 at the federal level have been promising, additional tools are needed at the state level to help bolster Ohio’s domestic commodity markets.”

Ohio Farm Bureau has long supported access to E15 fuel, strengthening domestic energy production and creating additional markets for farm families. Through continued partnership with organizations such as Ohio Corn & Wheat, the organization will continue to advocate for increased availability and access to E15 and other biofuel options.

The bill remains under consideration by the Ohio House Transportation Committee.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
