2024 Taste of Franklin County

Taste of Franklin County featured a farm-to-table dinner served outdoors on the farm, consisting of foods that were grown or produced right on The Ohio State University campus farm, located within the Columbus city limits. Most of the food on the menu traveled less than a mile to get from where it was produced to where it was consumed. The farm tours and dinner took take place on Sunday, Sept. 22.

Participants had an opportunity to tour the 261-acre Waterman Farm on the OSU campus and learn how food is produced and how Ohio State is conducting cutting-edge agricultural research and educational programs to increase the sustainability and security of Ohio’s food system. They were also able to purchase products at the mini farmers market and enjoy the locally sourced dinner.

Thank you to Doug Dawson for donating and preparing the meat for the dinner as well as Chef David Wolf and Columbus State students. Thank you to all of our generous sponsors for the event. This event would not be possible without the dedicated committee and day of volunteers, thank you for all of your hard work! This event benefits the youth scholarship fund!

My first recommendation in your journey is to start out with a local farming friend or mentor along with joining an organization like Ohio Farm Bureau.

New and beginning farmers
We’re just so thankful for the Farm Bureau and the foundation for helping put this together. And of course, the Boyert family for the vision they had with this grant. It’s jumping us forward 10 years. It’s unbelievable.

Youth pathways in Farm Bureau
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
