Sheep & Goat Clinic brings local producers together for education

On Saturday, March 29, local sheep and goat producers gathered at the Marshall Community Center for an informative and engaging Sheep & Goat Clinic. Hosted by United Producers, the Highland County Farm Bureau and OSU Extension Highland County, the event provided valuable insights into breeding, finishing, and marketing sheep and goats. This event was part of an ongoing effort to provide quality agricultural programming for the local farming community. These monthly meeting have been organized by Tim Sheeley, a Highland County Farm Bureau board trustee and employee of United Producers.

The clinic featured expert speakers, including Tim Sheeley, Sam Roberts with UPI and Ty Hamilton with OSU Extension Highland County, who shared their knowledge. Ty Hamilton expressed his appreciation for the event’s success, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among organizations and volunteers in supporting local agriculture. He noted that the Sheep & Goat Clinic is just one of many opportunities for producers to continue learning and growing in their industry.

Farmers interested in future events can stay connected with the Farm Bureau and OSU Extension for more educational programs.

To grow a network and gain perspective and knowledge in the industry through personal and professional development has been invaluable. Every day I learn and grow.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Bringing the farm back to life
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
