Lorain County

Nov. 6, 2025

A statement from the Lorain County Farm Bureau Board of Trustees:

The Lorain County Farm Bureau is committed to protecting productive farmland, supporting responsible land-use decisions, and ensuring a strong future for agriculture in our region.

Consistent with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s support for farmland preservation and local control of land-use planning, we believe that large-scale industrial development proposals must be carefully reviewed for their long-term impact on our rural community and the viability of agriculture in our area.

In keeping with that principle, we encourage landowners and local decision-makers to prioritize farmland preservation. Our local leaders have the tools to support both the agricultural heritage and the economic future of Lorain County. With this in mind, we strongly question if either the sewer project or mega site will balance this agricultural foundation with other economic interests of our community. This project must be given a comprehensive and transparent review and allow for robust discussion with the community. Agriculture has been a vital industry in Lorain County since its inception, and we must make sure that agriculture remains the backbone of its economic future.

“No Mega Site, No Sewers, Keep It Rural”

My first recommendation in your journey is to start out with a local farming friend or mentor along with joining an organization like Ohio Farm Bureau.

New and beginning farmers
We’re just so thankful for the Farm Bureau and the foundation for helping put this together. And of course, the Boyert family for the vision they had with this grant. It’s jumping us forward 10 years. It’s unbelievable.

The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
