Athens AG Day

Athens-Meigs County Farm Bureau hosted the 23rd Annual Athens County Ag Day at the Athens County Fairgrounds May 12, 2026.

Each year we host the Athens County 4th grade students at the fairgrounds to teach them all about different types of agriculture. There were 379 students who rotated through 17 different stations throughout the day. Each student was able to take home a free drawstring bag with all of the bag sponsors on it along with a brochure about what Farm Bureau is, the stations they were able to participate in for the day, and all of the event sponsors.

We could not host this wonderful event each year if it was not for the Athens County Fair Board for allowing us to use the grounds, our wonderful sponsors who believe in what we are doing, and our fantastic presenters that make the day a success!

This year’s Bag Sponsors were:

AEP Ohio

Baum Lumber

Holzer Health System

Hoon Inc.

Merchants National Bank

Parker Farms

Shade River Ag

The Red Bird Ranch

         Silver Sponsor

Athens SWCD

The mission of the Ohio Farm Bureau is working together for Ohio farmers to advance agriculture and strengthen our communities.

My first recommendation in your journey is to start out with a local farming friend or mentor along with joining an organization like Ohio Farm Bureau.

New and beginning farmers
We’re just so thankful for the Farm Bureau and the foundation for helping put this together. And of course, the Boyert family for the vision they had with this grant. It’s jumping us forward 10 years. It’s unbelievable.

It wasn’t until I joined the Wilmington College Collegiate Farm Bureau that I truly saw how my passion could translate into leadership, advocacy and a career.

The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
