Farm Bureau leaders and Evan Callicoat, Ohio Farm Bureau director of state policy, addressed the meeting. Callicoat gave a statewide legislative update.
Farm Bureau members passed policies opposing CAUV benefits to foreign landowners and supporting the efforts to promote and encourage students to seek education in soil science degree fields.
Re-elected to the county board of trustees were David Bright, Alyssa Wbb, and Opal Dyer. Elected to serve as delegates to the 2025 OFBF state annual meeting were Tammi Goeglein, Hannah Thompson, and Jenna Montle, with Roy Vaughan slated as an alternate.
Athens-Meigs County Farm Bureau President Tammi Goeglein discussed different activities that the county Farm Bureau had taken part in. From holding the 21st annual 4th grade Ag Day in Athens County, the 5th annual 4th grade Ag Day in Meigs County, to hosting the first annual Dinner on the Farm at the Bobcat Bed & Breakfast.
Organization Director Ashley Kasler recognized the county board of trustees with a gift of appreciation.
We concluded the night by handing out Friend of Agriculture designations to Troy Balderson, re-running for Congressional District 12; Brian Chavez, running for Senate District 30; Wenda Sheard and Kevin Ritter, running for House District 94; and Don Jones re-running for House District 95. The Friend of Agriculture is awarded by the AGGPAC (Agriculture for Good Government Political Action Committee). Every election year, AGGPAC reviews voting records of elected officials and collects reviews from county boards. In situations where there is an open seat, county Farm Bureau members also conduct an open seat screening. It is with this information that the AGGPAC awards Friend of Agriculture distinction to candidates.
