Eight buyers purchased market hogs during the Belmont County Jr. Fair this past September to be donated back to Belmont County Farm Bureau. Those buyers were T.J. Jefferis, Buckeye Steel Inc., Bridgeport Equipment, EQT Corporation, Tim’s Custom Installation, Ascent Resources, Williams Energy, and MPLX.  Also, J-Mo Meats Barnesville, helped with the processing cost.

Consequently, a total of 1746 pounds of pork were donated to nine area food banks and delivered by Devin Cain, Belmont County Farm Bureau program coordinator.

Food banks receiving the packages of pork:

  • First Christian Church Five Loaves Food Pantry in Barnesville
  • Bridgeport Christian Friendship Council of Churches Food Pantry
  • Frances Cabrini Catholic Church of Colerain
  • Bellaire Salvation Army
  • Shadyside Fellowship UMC Pantry
  • St Clairsville Council of Churches Food Pantry
  • Flushing Ministerial Association Pantry
  • Neffs United Methodist Church
New and beginning farmers
My first recommendation in your journey is to start out with a local farming friend or mentor along with joining an organization like Ohio Farm Bureau.
