Lawrence County Farm Bureau hosts Member-Only Soil Testing Event

Lawrence County Farm Bureau hosted the 3rd annual Fall Member-Only Soil Testing event on Oct. 20-24, in conjunction with the Lawrence County SWCD office.

Members enjoy this localized member benefit, so the Lawrence board decided to team up with the Lawrence SWCD office to host the opportunity this fall. Members had the opportunity to collect two soil samples and deliver them to the SWCD office between Oct. 20-24 during normal business hours. Memberships were checked to be current and the samples were recorded by the SWCD. At the end of the week, the samples were sent off to the lab. Once the results are completed, the members receive their results via email or mail. These results help them to determine what the farmers may or may not need to add on their soil this year before planting.

This fall, we brought in nine different soil samples from Lawrence County.

This is a project that the Lawrence County Farm Bureau feels adds value to our membership within the county.

Interested in becoming a member to gain this awesome opportunity? Call the office at 740-201-2739 or join at ofbf.org/join.

My first recommendation in your journey is to start out with a local farming friend or mentor along with joining an organization like Ohio Farm Bureau.

New and beginning farmers
We’re just so thankful for the Farm Bureau and the foundation for helping put this together. And of course, the Boyert family for the vision they had with this grant. It’s jumping us forward 10 years. It’s unbelievable.

The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
