While a permanent solution to year-round E15 didn’t make it into the House-passed version of the farm bill last week, there is still an opportunity for accomplishing this goal, and Ohio Farm Bureau is urging its members to contact their member of Congress to keep momentum.
Congress is now considering standalone legislation to allow the permanent, year-round sale of E15. This is a critical opportunity to support farmers, expand domestic energy production and lower fuel costs for consumers.
Outdated federal regulations currently prevent E15 from being sold year-round without temporary summer waivers. That uncertainty creates unnecessary challenges for fuel retailers and limits market opportunities for farmers.
For Ohio, the impact is significant. The state’s ethanol industry:
- Processes 217 million bushels of corn each year
- Produces 600 million gallons of fuel
- Supports more than 14,000 jobs
Expanding access to E15 means strengthening that economic engine while giving consumers a more affordable option at the pump. Just as important, this is about choice. Year-round E15 does not mandate sales; it simply ensures retailers and consumers have the option.
Members’ voices are the most powerful tool Farm Bureau has, and when lawmakers hear from them, they listen. By sharing how this legislation impacts farms, families and communities, we make it more than clear that E15 is a win for everyone.
