November/December Our Ohio 2025

In the November/December issue of Our Ohio magazine, members will read about the latest on Lake Erie research from OSU’s Stone Lab, a success story from the AgTech Innovation Hub, a feature with FSA Ohio Director Don Jones about drought impacts and Farm Service Agency resources, as well as a story with OFBF Heritage Partner, Nationwide on helping protect farms and homes from Mother Nature.

Plus in this edition with the theme of Weather Wise, learn why launching a weather balloon from the National Weather Service Station in Wilmington helps forecasters worldwide, and read a retrospective on the Blanchard River Demonstration Farms Network and its lasting legacy.

In the Leadership Development section, learn about dairy farmer Emily Mullen and how she saved the dairy show at the Butler County Fair. We also have a story in the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation section about the lasting scholarship legacy of the Mizer Family in Coshocton County, which began more than 100 years ago with a Farm Bureau scholarship won by Emerson Mizer.

Also please note, due to Ohio Farm Bureau by laws related to the notice of the state annual meeting, this edition of Our Ohio will not hit mailboxes until mid-November. Thank you for your understanding.

Scroll down to the Featured Articles section on this page to read each story.

My first recommendation in your journey is to start out with a local farming friend or mentor along with joining an organization like Ohio Farm Bureau.

New and beginning farmers
We’re just so thankful for the Farm Bureau and the foundation for helping put this together. And of course, the Boyert family for the vision they had with this grant. It’s jumping us forward 10 years. It’s unbelievable.

The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Giving farmers a voice
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
