2025 Ohio Farm Bureau Winter Leadership Experience

The Young Agricultural Professionals 2025 Winter Leadership Experience, an opportunity to build personal and professional skills, network with agricultural leaders and learn to make a difference within their community, Farm Bureau and agriculture, is coming up Feb. 7-8 at Kalahari in Sandusky, Ohio.

Registration is now open for the conference, which will feature sessions covering topics ranging from traditional agriculture and niche farming/marketing to advocacy and consumer education.

New this year, to coincide with the event’s theme of “Embracing Your Season,” members of any age, even those who are not Young Agricultural Professionals, are welcome to attend this signature Ohio Farm Bureau event.

“Each year, the YAP State Committee secures an agenda of high-caliber educational programming for the Winter Leadership Experience. Realizing the offerings of the conference are beneficial to all agriculturalists, regardless of age, YAP leaders are welcoming all Ohio Farm Bureau members to attend this year,” said Mary Klopfenstein, YAP and Ag Literacy program specialist. “The presenter lineup for 2025 will be particularly beneficial for YAP members to attend alongside other key decision-makers on the farm to talk growth and transition strategies for the future of their operation.”

In addition, the conference offers multiple extended learning sessions on grain marketing, starting a new home food business and ATV/UTV safety, as well as a pesticide and fertilizer applicator recertification continuing education class, a Networking and Partnership Showcase and a night of entertainment for the whole family. Kids programming also will be available during breakout sessions

The registration deadline for the 2025 Winter Leadership Experience is Jan. 21, 2025, and event details can be found at ofb.ag/2025WLE.

The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

The plan we are on is great. It’s comparable to my previous job's plan, and we are a sole proprietor.

Finding farm labor
We work terrifically with the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau, hosting at least one to two outreach town hall events every year to educate new farmers and existing farmers on traditional CAUV and woodlands.

CAUV: Past, present and future
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
